Special Olympics Policies and Requirements
Attendance
By signing up for these programs athletes must be committed and will be expected to attend a minimum of 70% of scheduled practices. If the athlete does not meet this requirement, they may be removed from the team without a refund.
Special Olympics COE Portal
To compete in Special Olympics sports, athletes must have a COE Portal account with Special Olympics. This free online portal requires two forms to be completed by the athlete and/or parent/guardian: the Athlete Acknowledgement Form and the Health History Form. Please contact our office if you need help setting up your account or have questions about form expiration dates.
Important: Forms within the portal must be completed by the deadlines set by Special Olympics Illinois. If they are not submitted on time, the athlete will be removed from the team without a refund.
Additional Fees
Should your athlete advance to state for any sport, an additional state fee will be applied to your account and must be paid prior to attending state.
Transportation
Transportation may be offered for games, but is not guaranteed.
River Valley Special Rec Athlete T-Shirt
Most Special Olympics athletes will need their own competition t-shirt. For a one-time fee of $20, you’ll receive a shirt that’s yours to keep—no returns necessary! Athletes will wear this shirt for Track & Field, Bocce, Cornhole, and Bowling, and it can be enjoyed for multiple seasons. Show your team spirit and take pride in representing River Valley Special Rec!

After signing up for a program requiring a competition t-shirt, you will receive instructions on how to purchase.
